A couple from the UK visiting their daughter in Virginia Beach were tragically killed on Princess Anne Road on January 19 by a motorist suspected of drunk driving. Apparently the couple would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on January 26.
According to local news media, the suspect who was heading southbound lost control of his car on a sharp curve. He drove into the opposing lane and crashed into the vehicle carrying the couple, both of whom were in their 70s. Apparently the suspect was speeding and passing other vehicles.
Police charged the suspect, who was hospitalized with serious injuries, with DUI and two counts of aggravated manslaughter, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. He was denied bail, and is under police guard at the hospital until his release and transfer to the city jail.
