Multiple Virginia news sources report that a Virginia Beach motorist fleeing from police died in a one-car crash in the early morning hours of October 10.
According to PilotOnline, police have determined that speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the fatal crash.
Officers tried to pull the motorist over for speeding, but he refused to stop. He led the police on a high-speed chase before losing control of his vehicle, taking out a fire hydrant, and flipping the car over. The vehicle came to a stop in a yard on Chilhowie Circle in Virginia Beach near Lynnhaven Parkway. The motorist, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. Wreckage from the vehicle scattered into nearby yards.
Police clocked the motorist at over 100 mph during the chase.
No other motorists or passers-by were harmed in this tragic incident. However, accidents brought about by reckless, impaired, or distracted drivers cause serious injuries and death as well as property damage every day across the state of Virginia.
